To Be a Human

If you want to be a human being
You must be strong
In every way
Because it is so very hard
You must be even harder
But you also must be soft
So that other humans can land on you
Without breaking
Some humans do break
You must
Keep the glue of compassion with you
If you want to be a human being

You must enjoy the sun on your face
You must smile when you are handed a sparkler
You will wave it alongside others and laugh
The splashing in a pool must bring you joy
If you want to be a human being

A warm shower must refresh you
The smell of a new car will exhilarate you
You will giggle when you hold a soft puppy
You will feel thrilled as you eat your birthday cakes
If you want to be a human being

A hug from your child will make you happy
A hug from a grandparent will make you feel warm
A hug from any other human, will make you feel human
If you want to be a human being
