Pearl stared down into the shimmering water of the pond. The reflection of her beautiful face and long flowing black hair, stared back at her. On her knees, her lavender dress tucked up around her thighs, she scrubbed a blood-soaked dress on the large rock in front of her. The blood swirled lazily into the rippling water, as she tightly squeezed the red water out of it. She was crying and she reached up with the back of her hand, to wipe away her tears.

“What could make such lovely eyes as yours, give up their priceless dew?” a deep man's voice inquired behind her.

Pearl gasped and whirled around, dropping the wet, blood-soiled dress in the water.

“Don’t be afraid, me lady! I did not mean to startle you, love!” the man cried, reaching his hand out towards her.

“Who are you?” Pearl asked fearfully, just barely above a whisper.

“I am from a village called Lagoria, far way. I have ridden my horse many a mile. I came home one evening to find my home on fire and my twelve-year-old daughter missing. I have reason to believe she was brought here, by a man called Hollow,” the stranger said, with an anger simmering just below the surface of his voice.
