A Hard Act to Follow
Sister Mary Olivia was running late and that was no good. No good indeed. The college play auditions were set to begin and Dawn Langsly was so incredibly nervous. Sister Mary O., as Dawn fondly called her, had been her theater mentor at James Tier Catholic college for the past three months.
If she did not show up soon for moral support, Dawn would have to flee from the auditions. Without dear Sister Mary O., she did not have the confidence, nor honestly the talent. Only when her mentor was near could she even remember her lines.
One glance out into the sister’s haunting green eyes and every line would flow right out of Dawn’s mouth without effort. Even though she had barely studied her lines! Memorizing was not her greatest gift, you could say. In fact, she would never have even signed up for auditions, if not for the sister’s insistent push.
The first day that Sister Mary Olivia had peeked into Dawn’s drama class, to watch silently, Dawn was drawn to her. Something about the senior nun, in full habit, with an austere and sad face.
The nun had run up to her after class, lightly stroking Dawn’s red hair and exclaiming excitedly, “My child, you are the one!”
Dawn was uncomfortably surprised, “The one? For what?”
