First, they took out the electrical grids, then came the dark hunt…
Horseback, I raced through an invisible whip of icy, steel wind. My face numb, my eyes set like a hawk on my target. I could barely see it, but I knew it was there.
Just the shambled roof of a cabin, poking up through the trees, on the fall-colored ridge. The sun was melting like butter and wrapping an eerie, golden glow over the horizon.
