Dark Delivery
First, they took out the electrical grids, then came the dark hunt…
Horseback, I raced through an invisible whip of icy, steel wind. My face numb, my eyes set like a hawk on my target. I could barely see it, but I knew it was there.
Just the shambled roof of a cabin, poking up through the trees, on the fall-colored ridge. The sun was melting like butter and wrapping an eerie, golden glow over the horizon.
At one time, the ride up into this valley was a pleasant treat for the eyes during October. Now, it was nothing less than a reminder, that there was more dying than the leaves. We were all headed toward a last fall.
If this last deadly virus didn't get you, the aliens would. They started by taking out the electrical grids, until we were all left in the dark. Then, they began what is now known as the dark hunt.
We were all thrown helplessly back into pioneer days, except with murderous alien creatures out to get us. We were all screwed. They were never going to be our friends, like we somehow always believed. How were we so naive, to think they would come in peace?
Any being more technologically advanced than humans is bound to be even more evil. They would certainly be more hostile, greedy, and even more narcissistic than us. Huh, you wouldn't have believed that was even possible, right? But…
